How To Start Blogging
Starting simply.
Blogger is a free service that allows you to start and maintain your own blog. Since our good friends at Google purchased Blogger, things got even easier. You just need a Google account which you can sign up for a www.google.com. Google will host your blog for free. Your URL will send being www.yourname @blogspot.com.
Starting more dramatically:
Gary started by using a free blogging service such as blogger. After blogging for a month or so, Gary turned his blog over to Justia who created a far more professional looking blog than one can get for free. While everyone may have a different opinion about the form of one’s blog, Justia created a blog that uses the same colors and theme as Gary’s firm’s website. Presentation is important when attempting to impress new clients.
Things to keep in mind before you start:
- Follow some blogs before you start writing your own blog. This will give you a sense of the formatting and writing styles that other lawyers and law firms use.
- Find your own voice. Remember, firm websites provide factual information about your firm and you. Blogs allow you to express yourself and to inject some personality into your writing.
- Content is King. Bloggers have subscribed to this saying since the dawn of blogging and it is true. People will absolutely be attracted to your blog if you have something worth reading. Keep it short, informative and again, inject your voice into your writing.
- Commit to posting at least once every two weeks. You want to keep your readership. Don’t let me think that your blog has been abandoned. There are hundreds, if not thousands of abandoned blogs on the internet. Who knows, maybe there are even more. The point is, keep your readers up to date and watch your readership grow.
